Android and G1 provides definitely a new mobile experience and I used to browse internet before, check my email, but never had applications that use internet in the background to update contacts, check gmail or gtalk instant messages regularly. Today’s applications – Roiding Nettraffic is a great helper to keep an eye on your daily traffic usage.

I have personally a 1Gig monthly internet plan on my mobile which I find more than enough to navigate, check email, watch some youtube videos, find locations on gmaps … I have also an USSD code that I can run to check my current traffic usage with my operator, but using Roiding Nettraffic I can get much more information especially 3G and wifi connections.
The only issue I found is that you can monitor traffic usage only from the day you have installed the applications. I have a 9Mb usage in 6hours shown in the application while I’m currently at 885MB with my internet plan. You cannot monitor previous traffic because there is no information available about it, but it’s still useful to track future connections.
If I’ll be able to set Free Traffic, Current monthly usage from provider (for current month), the Starting Date, and then the application calculates the missed data for the current month that will be very useful. Because I always ask myself the same question : When do my plan expire ?
NetTraffic provides you with many useful information for example the interface used, connection duration, speed and even the IP address. Then by setting a notification threshold, you will get a notification once you exceed the traffic mentioned.
There is an experimental feature that make NetTraffic enable to connect mobile network. It didn’t work at all for me making the application stop unexpectedly, probably we will get working for next release.

New version 1.0.3 has been released on Market. We’ll keep trying update this app.
As for the missed data function, we’ll make it happen in next version upgrade.
And the function to enable to connect mobile network will depend on Android platform upgrade. After investigate on how Android to connect to mobile network, we found from SDK level we couldn’t control it. What we do is just adding/removing the APN to apn list(A tip to enable the mobile network for this apn, just go to settings to edit the apn NetTraffic added for your and don’t change anything, then go back, one second or two it works!). For the crash it won’t happen now.

And one thing need to be mentioned: the current v1.0.3 in Market changed its package name(NOT the app name) for we couldn’t upgrade with the previous package name. So when you install the new one, it won’t replace the old one and don’t import the data you have.
Very sorry about it, we’ll keep our eye on how we upgrade the application and it won’t happen again!
