Premium Android game portal Playandroid.com

Posted on 03 March 2011 by Hatem Ben Yacoub

Karlsruhe/ Germany (Febuary 20, 2011) – Rumble Media announced today that it has launched the world’s first gaming portal solely dedicated to games for Google’s Android platform. The service can be reached under www.playandroid.com and allows users to download Android games directly to their device.

“Android will be the next Windows. What Microsoft is for the PC is Google for the smartphone. And gaming will be at forefront of this new movement”, says David An, Founder & Managing Director of Germany based Rumble Media and continues: “Currently, the Android Market is the dominating download platform. There are some horizontal portals offering a broad spectrum of app categories. But Playandroid.com is the first vertical gaming portal and community for Android premium game users.”

The service aims at solving the “mobile app discovery problem” which is inherent to app stores once they become too big. Independent developers are having a hard time being found in incumbent app stores just because of the sheer volume of games and competitive advertising budgets. And users on the other hand, need
more reliability regarding the right choice of games.

“We aim at solving the mobile app discovery problem through our editorially selected premium games in a social community environment”, explains David An. This is done by an inhouse editorial team which only selects premium Android games – violent-free and non-adult content. Further, users can register for free with their Facebook account, follow and vote other Android game developers and other friends. Developers can communicate with Playandroid.com users via developer profile pages and user written game reviews. Games are easily installed via scanning QR codes.

In the near future, Rumble Media will offer a mobile optimized page and Android apps which will offer games exclusively for a short period of time. For this,
the company will closely work with Android game developers. Revenues will be shared with them by three models:

1. In-app advertising
2. In-app item sale revenues
3. Paid game downloads

More applications include Paparazzi, the first real-life multiplayer game and Molib which integrates maps to Velib service in Paris.

Paparazzi Game for Google Android

“Paparazzi” was designed to use the built-in phone camera in the first person real-life multiplayer game. This is a prototype of location based MMORPG which will combine all new Android features like gps/compass/camera. Just imagine that you will be able to see virtual objects via phone camera. GridGrain, Open Source Grid Computing for Android

Featured last Tuesday on BusinessWeek, GridGrain is an open source Grid Computing solution for Java available for Android platform. GridGrain is not an application but a technology that could be used to create innovative applications with shared computing between different Android devices. But the question is, can we really turn Android devices into supercomputers ? Sounds like science fiction.

Molib, Velib on Android

Velib is a new public bicycle rental program launched in Paris on July 15, 2007. The program include 750 hire points, and 10,000 bicycles. Similar programs are available in others cities such Brussels, Copenhagen, Munich … etc. Velib is very useful and with Molib it become much more better, especially if you don’t know the city. The idea is to avoid congestions and use a velib instead of your car or metro. Molib will be simply your guide in Paris to find Velib stations nearby in real time, and show your locations in the city.
